Working Remote: My Working From Home Routine

Many companies have opted for a hybrid work model, with some roles being 100% remote. Due to my location, I am fortunate to be able to work remotely and can visit the office once in a while when I can. There are both advantages and disadvantages to working remote but I won’t talk about them here. Instead, I’ll show you guys my working from home routine – what it was like before catching covid and the aftermath, my current routine suffering from persistent long covid symptoms. This is the reality.

Before Catching Covid

07:45 – Alarm goes off and I prepare for yoga
08:00 – Yoga and morning routine
09:00 – Log on and start the working day
13:00 – Cook lunch, run any errands, food shop, go for a walk, it’ll vary each day.
14:00 – Work in the PM
17:00 – Prepare to finish work
17:30 – Log off and get changed into workout clothes
17:45 – HIIT session and my evening starts

Throughout the day, I try to stay active and take breaks where I can. This could mean working at my standing desk, walking around the room/house, stretching, do a quick 5 minute workout etc.

After – At Present

08:45 – Alarm goes off and morning routine
09:00 – Log on and start the working day
13:00 – Nap first, quick lunch after
14:00 – Work in the PM
17:00 – Prepare to finish work
17:30 – Log off and my evening starts. Maybe take another nap.

Well, the active lifestyle took a 180. I’m sitting down all day, only walking when I need to go to the kitchen or bathroom. Symptoms affecting me and causing a chain reaction. Not pleasant.

After recovering from covid, I’ve been suffering from long covid symptoms and it does affect my day-to-day. I’m a lot less active and have learnt to temporarily adapt to a different lifestyle whilst I’m recovering, not knowing how long it’ll take for me to go back to my pre-covid lifestyle. Oh, I miss being active. I’ve learnt to be nicer to my own body, to not push it when it’s not actually ready and take it easy. I need to be more patient with it even if I’ve lost every nerve I have. Plans cancelled, put on pause but it’s out of my hands, out of my control. Health is first and foremost the number one priority in my life at this very moment.
