Is this a Christmas tree made out of Pokemon plushes? Oh hell yes! Can you see your favourite in there?

2024 has just appeared out of nowhere. Does anyone else feel like each year passes slightly quicker than the previous year? Or maybe I’ve become more aware as I’ve gotten older. Sometimes I wish for time to slow down; at other times, I wish for it to pass quickly. I can go on and on about it all, brain-dumping every last word but I think that’s enough. Anyways, here’s rounding up December and the end of the year to officially say, hi 2024 on here.

Delight: Media Art Exhibition

I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect from this exhibition but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a mesmerising, multisensory and interactive take on Seoul and its heritage and culture. The artist Gyoungtae Hong combines art and technology to give you a taste of Korea in a modern and contemporary way. There’s also a fun interactive treasure hunt on your phone incorporating AR (augmented reality) which was cool! I am currently drafting a blog post separately as I want you show you more from this exhibit. Consider this as a sneak peak.

Christmas at Kew 2023

After last year’s visit, it had made a lasting impact on me and I had made sure I was able to grab my tickets for 2023’s winter show. I’ve already said to myself that I am going to start making this a yearly tradition. I’m not sure how I hadn’t heard of Christmas at Kew before my first visit in 2022 but make no mistakes, I’ll be visiting every year with my eyes wide open, staring at the installations and feeding my stomach. I’m still thinking about the loaded hash browns, with macaroni and cheese on top – carb heaven. It’s just a lovely way to spend an evening out.

Bluefin Tuna Carving Show with Hatano Yoshiki

I was looking for an omakase experience that was within my budget and had specific dates available and then I had come across Sushi TONARI. Luckily, there was a 3-day special New Years event where each day would have different specials, all with a special appearance by the executive Chef Hatano Yoshiki (his sushi bar in Tokyo won the Michelin BIB Gourmand!). Day 1 was wagyu beef, day 2 was a bluefin tuna carving show and day 3 was osechi omakase. I had booked the bluefin tuna carving show and oh my. Watching Chef Hatano Yoshiki carve that piece of tuna and prepare each dish right in front of you was a feast for the eyes.

I’m generally a salmon gal but this has changed my thoughts on tuna. It was buttery, fatty, rich and melted in your mouth, not like anything I had tasted before. I would say 98% of the dishes prepared contained this exquisite tuna and after all of the dishes had been served, it was time for seconds – we could request any of the dishes we had. Everything was simply delicious. The flavour combinations, the seasoning, the atmosphere, it was chef’s kiss.

I’m adding Tachigui Sushi Tonari to my to-visit list in Japan. We might see you soon chef (in Q4 2024)!

Random Musings

  • Ice skating at Somerset House was an interesting experience for me. It’s the second time I’ve been ice skating and let’s say, I won’t be going to the Olympics any time soon!
  • Squeezing in a walk to see the London Christmas lights around central the day before I was heading home.
  • My cousin and her family flew over to the UK and was able to catch up with them. It’s been 10 years!
  • Had dinner with another cousin who I hadn’t seen in 10 years as well. 10 years seems to be a trend for me.
  • The Lego Fortnite addiction is real and I enjoy building lego sets from scratch.
  • Got tickets for Ne-Yo’s tour.
