I’m not familiar with the fitness scene in London and am on the lookout for fitness studios with a great variety of classes. Always open to recommendations! I will be actually moving to London when it’s safe to do so, but that won’t be any time soon by the looks of things. For now, online workouts and I still have that close connection. During the lockdowns, they were my go-to, opting for on-demand classes or just straight up YouTube, never the live classes from studios, so I was curious as to how the latter will be. This is where Blok London comes in, giving me a taste of live online classes. Say hello to Blok London Boxcon live stream.

I was invited to attend this class but all thoughts are my own. This post doesn’t contain affiliate links.

Blok London Boxcon 45 Live Stream

Boxcon combines boxing techniques with strength & conditioning exercises to provide an intense full-body workout. Suitable for first-timers and experienced boxers alike, expect to be pushed to your limits as you swap between bag sequences, bodyweight drills and resistance exercises with very little rest in between.

Boxcon is perfect for anyone looking to push themselves out of their comfort zone while implementing more boxing in their training programme. This one is not for the faint-hearted but perfect for anyone hoping to get fighting fit.

BLOK

This live class was conducted through Zoom. Before class began, Declan, the instructor, had asked if there were anyone who hasn’t boxed previously, any injuries or if you’re left-handed just so he can advise you where necessary. He had shared his Spotify playlist which you can listen to or have the option to listen to your own and will tell you when to press play. It was a mix of hip hop, pop, R&B, simply an upbeat mix to spur you on. Turning your camera on was recommended to allow him or any instructors to see your form and help you, but this was optional. I had it off due to feeling a little self-conscious; though I wish I had turned it on to push me that tiny bit harder.

The class consisted of a warm-up, alternating boxing sequences and bodyweight drills/exercises and lastly, a cool down. It’s been a while yonks since I’ve last taken a boxing class. Let’s say, my boxing skills and coordination were out of touch; nevertheless, it did get better as the class went by. I wasn’t paying attention to the music but was occupied with the boxing sequence, making sure I’ve got it right and am coordinating with footwork. The look of concentration on me was next level – determination would be best to describe this. In between each boxing sequence, there are bodyweight exercises – 3 different exercises, 2 sets. You are getting a total body burn. To name a few, I can recall burpees, reverse burpees (my favourite), squats (with a jump added in the second set), glute bridges, walkout plank with push-ups, bicycle crunches etc.

No equipment was needed for the class, even a mat was optional. Considering this was an online, live home workout class, it is understandable not everyone will have equipment so it would cater to everyone. After some research, classes in the studio may incorporate equipment such as dumbells, punching bag. This of course would be available in the studio.

My Verdict

45 minutes flew by. I had to hop onto a work Zoom meeting straight after and boy, was I steaming. My glasses kept fogging up and decided to forgo them. Nothing says good morning to my manager like being on camera, presenting myself dripping in sweat with messy hair and a red face. That hot face emoji would fit in right about now! If this doesn’t illustrate the intensity of the class and my effort, I don’t know what will. I loved the variety and wasn’t bored one bit and will definitely attend a class in person sometime in the future. Simple as that.

An online live workout doesn’t have the same atmosphere and energy as compared to in-person which is expected. Just remember, the instructors are trying their best to accommodate and teach despite the current limitations. You do have to motivate yourself to push harder since you’re the only one physically in the room. Whilst attending the class and hearing encouraging words is the first step, the rest is up to you.

This class isn’t just for the experienced boxercisers, beginners are welcome, basically catering for all levels! It may be intense but you do it at your own pace. Even if you’re more on the experienced spectrum, don’t underestimate it, it’s challenging. Your stamina, coordination and mentality will be challenged. In the end, it’s rewarding knowing you’ve completed the class and have pushed yourself.

Thanks Declan for the class!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Nicol, I’m super reluctant in going to the gym too, so online fitness classes are what I’ve been opting for 🙂 x
