I have been thinking about rebranding for quite some time but never really plucked up the courage to do so until now. My blog has been known as yukluistyle for 6 and a half years and I’ve grown attached to it. It’s hard to let go of something you’ve been known as but, at the same time, rebranding is a breath of fresh air.
So why am I doing this you may ask? Going to blog events, I always say “yuk lui” or “yukluistyle” and I do get confused looks. So I end up explaining it’s my Chinese name etc. It does start conversation to be fair! I didn’t really think I’d take my blog this far when I had started it. I had the same blog name on many of the old blogging platforms like Xanga and it was natural to inherit it on Blogger. There are times where I do spell out the blog name which I thought might be an inconvenience.
Thinking about it, yuk lui or yukluistyle isn’t really a memorable name. People may find it hard to pronounce it so I want to keep it nice and easy. Better late than never right? I did have many names in mind such as “Nicol no e” but I wanted something a bit more professional therefore nicolyl.com was born. I’ve kept the initials yl because, why not?
I will be keeping yukluistyle in certain areas like the blog description so readers will be able to find this new domain. If you’ve noticed, I’ve also added “formerly yuklustyle” into the blog title. This is to ease the change to the readers. Not sure how long I’ll keep it there but will wait until I’m fully confident and ready.
With an actual domain, this means I will be working my way back up again. Building up my own domain authority, page authority etc but I like a challenge. I just need to get this new brand and site out there. There’s still some changes I need to make but that will be done will on the backend so it shouldn’t affect the blog as a whole. My old yuk-lui.blogspot.com will automatically redirect to www.nicolyl.com. Exciting times!
Goodbye yuk lui style, and welcome nicolyl. Let’s see what new adventures this will bring.
