How to Decide on What to Pack for a Holiday

HOW NOT TO PACK YOUR WHOLE HOUSE

Write a List
I always have to write a list no matter what. I’ve already got a list written of everything I could possibly think of in all types of holidays in my Bullet Journal. Before, I would write it on a post-it note or on my phone then discard it and redo a new list for every holiday. With it being in a Bullet Journal, I can always go back to look at and pack all the applicable items.

Look at your Itinerary
I’m assuming you’ve got some sort of itinerary you’re going to follow, whether it’s one you’ve done yourself or an example online. With this, you can determine the type of activities you will be doing and pack accordingly. Pack outfits for each day. But this doesn’t mean you can pack different pairs of shoes for each day.

Check the Weather Forecast
I always check every day during the week before flying to get a good feel of what the weather could be like by the time I arrive. On some websites, you can view a week or month in advance. Don’t highly rely on it as weather changes often. Once you’ve got a good jist of it, then you’re set.

Do Your Homework
Do any of the places you’re going have a dress code? Are you poshing it up for dinner at a nice restaurant? Any celebrations or special events?

Don’t Pack at the Last Minute
I’m going to put my hands up and say I do this too often. Even though I follow my list, I still end up missing an item and never have time to recheck. Give yourself enough time so you can double or even triple check you’ve got everything. If I’m using some stuff in the morning on the day I fly,

Try and Pack Light
I always pack items that doesn’t get used and it just takes up so much space. Every time I arrive back to the UK and think, gosh, why did I even pack this? No ifs, no buts, no made-up scenarios in my head. Just pack the necessities.

Be Smart
Some items can double up as a day and night. If I’m going away for 2 weeks, I would pack a weeks worth of clothes and mix and match them. This is also a good reason to go out shopping to fill up the suitcase and wear new clothes on holiday too. Do not overload your suitcase with shoes. It takes up so much space and increases the weight of the suitcase. If you do, get ready to spend money at the airport for excess weight. Not worth it. Pack 2-3 pairs maximum. They need to be comfy and go with everything you would wear.

Pack enough liquid products that would last you the duration even if it’s pouring some into a travel-sized bottle/pot for those shorter stays. Same with contact lenses etc. You can always purchase items from the local shops but beware, some are places overprice items in touristy areas. You can read my tips for packing makeup here.

If you’re travelling with friends or family, decide on who brings what. Everyone individual doesn’t need to bring toothpaste or hair straighteners. You only need x amount of everything per room share and you might find new products you like too. Bonus!

Do you have any tips on packing for holidays?
