Trends I've Never Followed

07 October 2014

NOT TO MY TASTE

Neon - I've always related neon to student nights out; with neon paint dotted on the face, neon tutus and leg warmers. Oh those were the days. I can't get out of my comfort zone to wear this during the day. I think it's too much for the day, with it being loud and still think its just for nights out. Oh how student nights out can affect your taste.

Metallics - Some metallic clothing and shoes looks amazing! But when I try them, I look like I'm about to be blast into space. I've seen it worn on fashion bloggers and they look stunning, then again, they're the type who can pull anything off. I haven't seen any metallic clothing worn on the streets in real life. Maybe it wasn't an actual trend?

Faux fur coat/vest/collar/scarf - Faux fur all the way, and not the real deal. It is soft but it's not attractive when rained on. Also, I have a sensitive nose so I'll end up sneezing constantly which is my main reason and possibly end up in hospital. Don't ask. I really like the look of the faux fur scarf collar thing but I would never be able to pull it off. I'm not really "feminine" enough in my opinion.

Fluffy jumpers - Sensitive nose issue, the same as the faux fur trend.

Wedge trainers/sneakers - I do wonder who came up with this idea. Just no. I don't find them attractive whatsoever. Sneakers are meant to be there for mainly comfort and style comes after without the added height. Short people like myself need the height but wedge sneakers aren't the answer.

Sports Luxe - Joggers with heels and baseball style tops to be specific. Leather or solid colour joggers with heels, I'm slightly confused. Still can't get my head around this. Looks mismatched as well as doing the walk of shame after a night out. Printed joggers with heels are better I guess.

Brogues - For some reason, it's a love hate relationship. I don't own a pair but I love them on other people and not myself. Being the fuss pot I am, I haven't seen a pair I really like.

Harem pants - I'm already short enough, I don't want to give the illusion of having shorter legs. Maybe I'll purchase a pair if I want to go as the Chinese, female version of MC Hammer for a fancy dress party and start singing "U Can't Touch This". I can definitely imagine this right now. STOP, HAMMER TIME.

What trends did you not follow?

  4. I was never a fan of wedge sneakers, and I believe it was Isabel Marant that started that trend. I like brogues, but they look ridiculous on me. I'm not that tall and I think they make my legs look shorter. I think I'm getting a second wave of love for metallics. I bought some metallic stuff about a year ago and never wore it...but now I am wearing it more.

  5. It seems like we have similar taste! I do like a wee bit of neon but none of the rest. I'm not into the 90s revival that's going on - I can remember the first time around. I saw a blogger the other day wearing an outfit my mum wore in 1995 - not for me!

  6. Neon is not for me either. I never follow trends, unless I actually like them.

  10. Hahaha loved this, some of these trends have baffled me too. Especially neon, makes me think of Ibiza! I do love metallic shoes but could never pull them off. I get envious of everyone who can!

  14. Haha this made me laugh! I've never really "got" harem pants, why would anyone want to make their legs look shorter!? Bizarre. Wedge trainers, too - what!?

  27. I'm the same with you on brogues, I just can't seem to find a pair I actually like when I try them on. It's a shame cause they'd probably go with so many outfits but I feel like they look too boyish on me.

I can't get away with neon or harem pants either, I'm not MC Hammer! x
