BROKE? SPENDING BAN? SAVING UP?

We’ve all had our fair share of those “I’m broke”, “I need to stop shopping and save up for this and that” phases and know that blogging actually does eat up our bank accounts. Before my blogging days, I was great at saving up and was able to control my spending urges (I didn’t really have many spending urges). But then developing an interest in beauty and fashion blogging has just *insert crying emoji*. Let’s move away from this. I’m currently saving up for my big trip across the pond in Easter. Exciting times!

Many bloggers seems to think that without money, you can’t produce any blog posts because you can’t buy the latest hyped up products (then to be disappointed) or the hot fashion item. But you can. So what do you post about when you’re in this sticky situation? Here are a few ideas.

Raid your siblings stash – If you have a sibling who wears the same size clothes, have a cheeky peek, I’m sure she won’t mind if you borrow it to take an OOTD photo. Look at her makeup collection, anything you can find. Just make sure you return it intact. Maybe your mother too! She might have some great vintage clothing ready to be styled up into today’s society.

Browse your never ending collection – Incorporate your items into a post. Make a top 5 post, favourites/disappointments, an empties posts if you like to hoard everything, your recommended products, comparison posts like dupes v high end, this seasons must haves etc. The list is endless.

Wishlists – These are probably the easiest posts to do. Even though the thought of wanting this and that is probably killing you, you can create a general one, a *insert store/brand name* type of list, anything really.

Certain occasion outfit ideas – Similar to wishlists, may be do a little guide on what to wear to a certain occasion. Like the one I did for a wedding. Graduation, first date, work to name a few.

A change of direction – Your blog might be heavily focused on one category, whether it’s beauty, fashion, lifestyle or food etc, maybe experiment and step into another without saying goodbye to your primary route. What have you got to lose? At first, I was primarily a beauty blogger but then fashion has slowly crept into scene over the years. Now a beauty and fashion blogger.

Show off your hidden talent – Makeup, cooking and baking, styling, photography, anything, show them off. A tutorial can be easily produced from these too if relevant.

Tips & guides – Have a tip that you swear by or have something new you’ve discovered? Share it to the world. Guides are always a popular one. It doesn’t have to be a blogging guide; travelling, bargain hunting, horse riding (I’ll just randomly throw it out there) are some examples.

Tags – These are lurking around the internet everywhere. Find one you really like and have fun with them. Even the ones on youtube, take them and adapt it to your blog. I’ve still got a few tags on my to do list.

External content – If you find something interesting in the news or YouTube that relates to what you blog, make a blog post about it. Add your views and see whether your readers agree and read their views. It’ll be like a mini debate. Also if you see images that have inspired you, blog about them as it may inspire others too. Don’t forget to credit if you have copied and pasted content directly and or images.

There are more posts out there which you can do. You just need think outside the box. I guess this can also tie in if you lack ideas on what to blog about.

Do you have any other suggestions on what to blog about?
